We arrived at 5:15 and were greeted by the deck security officer who signed us in and gave us our visitor passes. We were then taken to the crew mess where 10 seafarers were gathered. Gerard introduced us and initiated a conversation in both English (for my benefit) and Tagalog.
Gerard takes a piece of paper and tapes it to the wall, and then writes various scripture references on it for the seafarers to look up in their Tagalog New Testaments. The first one was 1 Timothy 1: 15 “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” From this verse he began sharing the gospel with them and along the way he had them read other scriptures in Tagalog from their New Testaments. This is such a good practice because it gets then into the bible, something that a majority of them do not have and have not read for themselves.
The crew was very receptive to the gospel message and Gerard led them through a prayer to begin their journey to receive Jesus Christ as their Savour.
After our visit and the gospel presentation, we took 3 of the crew shopping at Country Grocer at Southgate Mall. This was a good time of fellowship and an opportunity to show them Christian love. We brought them back an hour later and dropped them back at the ship. Please pray that they will continue to read their New Testaments and that they will sense God’s love for them as they travel back to China. We look forward to seeing them back here in a few months.
