About Us

Our Mission

Nanaimo Lighthouse Ministries is an interdenominational, non-profit society, registered in British Columbia, Canada.

Our ministry is to present the Good News of Jesus Christ to seafarers of all nations, to encourage believers in their walk and their witness, and to offer practical help wile the seafarers are at our docks.

With many seafarers from around the world visiting our docks in Nanaimo, Duke Point, Harmac Pacific, and the Mosaic Log sort on a regular basis, the mission field is truly at our doorstep.

Welcome!

Nanaimo Lighthouse Ministries (NLM) has been operating since 1990 and it is our great pleasure to serve the Lord Jesus Christ in His ministry to the seafarers. We see seafarers from the Philippines, China, Vietnam, and India. We also see, to a lesser degree, seafarers from Eastern Europe, Myanmar, and Korea.

God has blessed this ministry in many ways and He is continually guiding us through the many challenges that come our way. Our world is changing ever so quickly but we are thankful that God is Sovereign and all things are in His capable hands.

I am very thankful for our missionaries who faithfully board the ships in all kinds of weather carrying heavy loads of literature and gifts for the seafarers. These are our front-line workers who endure much to take the Good News of the gospel to the seafarers. They visit with them, pray for them, take them shopping, advocate for them, and give them gifts to show the love of Christ.

I’m thankful for our board of directors who work diligently behind the scenes to keep this ministry going while seeking the wisdom and guidance of the Lord in all matters.

I’m thankful for our toque knitters who faithfully, and prayerfully, knit toques to keep the seafarers warm in our cold climate. Most of them are from tropical regions so they really appreciate a warm toque to keep the cold out while they work. I once heard of a seafarer who went to bed with a toque on his head and one on each foot!

I’m very thankful for our supporters who faithfully pray for this ministry, and support it by helping us pack gift bags, come to our AGM, knit toques, and support this ministry financially. We are all part of the family of God and each of us has our unique part to fulfill. We covet your prayers as we face so many challenges in a world that is rapidly moving away from anything to do with our Loving God.

But most of all, I’m thankful to our Lord Jesus Christ who shows His unfailing love to all of us by shedding His blood for our sins on the cross. Without Him, nothing would matter, but with Him everything is made new by His regenerating power. We praise God that He is faithful to answer our every need, and has done so since the beginning of this ministry. As I write this I am confident that God started this ministry and He will see it through any challenge that comes our way. And the wonderful thing about this ministry is that as we share the gospel with the seafarers here in BC, they go back to their homes, in foreign countries, and share with their families. In this way God is spreading the gospel around the world, and sometimes in countries that are hostile to Christianity!

Let’s all give thanks and praise to our God, who can do more than we could ever ask or imagine, for what He has done through NLM, and for all that He has planned for us to do in the future.

In His service,

Grant S.

President
