We arrived at security and boarded the ship around 5:15. One of the seafarers at the security desk took us to the crew mess where they were finishing dinner. There were 8 seafarers eating dinner so we introduced ourselves and were hoping that they wouldn’t run away. The captain came down and inspected the contents of the gift package. They then gave a P.A. announcement that seemed to encourage the crew to come back. Until then, the crew were very courteous and hesitant/reluctant to reach out their hand to take a gift, but after the captain gave his approval they were happy to accept them. One crewman used a translator to say, “can I have one gift bag please?” In the end there was only one gift that wasn’t claimed.
I, Frank, used the whiteboard to draw an eternity symbol (timeline) and as they picked up their gift we had some time to share with them. There was some interaction about wealthy people in Shanghai, but that a person who inherits eternal life is wealthier than they are. We used the Chinese-English New Testament to focus on John 3:16. That verse was posted on the wall of the crew mess since our October 20th visit.
I think that we made a lot of progress and their hearts were touched. Since we were next to the kitchen we visited with the chief cook using an interpreter app.
Please pray that they will be drawn to the Father and realize that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and that He is their access to the Father and their eternal destiny.
