Port:Nanaimo A dock
Crew: 20 Filipino
Names of Ship Missionaries: Gerard Guimbatan, Frank Sciarpelletti, Sally (guest)
Result: 12 heard the gospel
Items taken on & given out: 3 bags of Cobbs bread (this is the second visit as Gary & Gina brought the gifts on November 20th).
After a seminar at First Baptist Church on the JWs, we cleared gate security and boarded the ship at 6 pm. We were greeted at the deck security office and signed in. The third officer escorted Sally and I (Frank) up to the lounge/TV room while Gerard stayed at the security desk, outside on the deck, to minister to 5 seafarers.
We greeted the available seafarers and introduced ourselves as from NLM. We visited with them for a while to get to know them and then moved the conversation to spiritual matters. I began my gospel presentation by speaking about the holiness of God and His plan to have us join Him for Eternity. This is based on grace and not works. Because God is a “just” God, sin is fully punished in Christ and thus allowing those who have faith in Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross are declared righteous in God’s sight.
We prayed the prayer of salvation with them and we pray that they will make a sincere commitment to surrender their lives to Christ. We found out that the Third officer is a Christian and conducts a weekly bible study on the ship. I asked for prayer requests and found out that the Third Officer’s wife in the Philippines is 4 months pregnant. So we prayed for her and for the other families back home, their upcoming voyage back, and for healthy relationships among the seafarers on board.
The captain was in town and we met him a little later and since we missed him and the First Engineer, we plan to come back tomorrow night. We visited with the Third officer and some of the other seafarers before we left the ship.
This was a good visit and opened the door for us to come back with some bibles to supply the Third Officer’s bible study.
