Sandy Bay – February 22nd, 2025

Port: Harmac East

Crew: 21 Filipino

Names of Ship Missionaries: Gary & Gina Steele

Result: 16 came to hear the gospel

Items taken on & given out: 22 gifts, 70 tracts, 16 Tagalog New Testaments

We arrived at the ship around 6:30 and were taken up to the officer’s mess. The captain came in to meet us and announced for all available crew to meet us. In a short time we had 16 crew members with us including the captain and officers. Only necessary crew for security and equipment were not with us.

The captain is a believer and put up a poster that he got from HLM in Vancouver. He went to the bible study at their seafarer’s centre and he’s very excited that we have come to visit them tonight. They were a fun group to be around and we had a lot of fun together.

When they were ready we moved into sharing the gospel message with them, which they were very attentive to hear. We welcomed them to Nanaimo and began sharing with them how Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven. Gina began sharing with them in Tagalog and at one point had them singing “God is So Good” in Tagalog. They really enjoyed this time of worship and sharing of scripture. We shared our testimonies and stories of how God has protected us. We finished by sharing with them the way to approach God asking for His mercy and forgiveness for their sins.

February 23rd

Last night Gary called me (Grant) asking if I could take the crew shopping tomorrow (Feb 23rd). I agreed to pick them up at 10am and take them shopping. When I arrived though, only the captain was coming as the other 5 backed out.

We had a good chat on the way to Best Buy and then I gave him my number so that he could call me when he wanted me to pick him up. Around 1:30 I got the call and picked him up. We had a good talk about spiritual things as he is an evangelical Christian. He wants his crew to hear the gospel so he’s excited that they will be coming back again. He’s on the ship until July so we’ll see him again.
